From Essie’s Winter 2008 collection, Sexy Divide is a deep grape with pink and blue microglitter. Essie is famous for their sheers and pastels, so this was quite a surprise from them.
The color is great. A deep, dark purple that looks purple. This is harder to find than one might think. Many dark purples appear almost black on the nail. The formula is perfection. Opaque in two coats, not at all streaky.
Base coat + 2 coats + top coat.
This polish is available at Ulta and Walgreens, it retails for $8.00.
I was more than estatic when I finally finished my seemingly endless bottle of OPI Rapidry Spray. Rapidry is one of the worst quick dry products I have ever used. I honestly couldn’t tell a difference when I used it.
I was in search of a new quick dry product and ran across Avon’s Nail Experts Quick Dry Oil in the Avon catalog. It was on sale for $3.99 (compared to OPI Rapidry’s $10+ price tag or Nicole by OPI’s $7.99), so I decided to give it a try. Avon claims that this product dries nails to the touch in 30 seconds, and dries nails to a completely hard finish in 4 minutes. I am entirely convinced that the former is true, but not the latter.
I have been using this on every manicure (minus matte and suede finish polishes) for about a month. I generally use a base coat, 2 coats of color and a top coat. I wait a minute or 2 before topping my manicure with the quick dry oil. I have never timed it exactly, but in under a minute my nails are dry to the touch. This prevents wrinkling and denting if I hit something lightly with my nails. It also allows me to type without having to worry about messing up my new manicure. Dry to the touch in 30 seconds indeed.
As for Avon’s claim that nails dry to a hard finish in 4 minutes with this product, I am not convinced. I have a habit of doing my nails at night not long before I go to bed. The first time I used this product I went to bed an hour after finishing my manicure. I woke up in the morning with an awful case of bed nails. If I finish my manicure a good 2 hours before I fall asleep, my nails are still perfect in the morning.
Another advantage of this product is the oil is incredibly moisturizing, which is great for cuticles. It also does not alter the appearance of your manicure.
Overall, I think this is a great product. It dries manicures to the touch faster than any other product I have used, and this is generally where I mess up my nails. I have yet to find a product that prevents bed nails any quicker. If you catch a sale, it’s a steal. Even at the regular price of $6, it is worth having around.
I resisted the matte nail polish trend for quite awhile, but finally broke down and purchased Essie Matte About You after borrowing Katie’s OPI Russian Navy Matte. I liked the look, but could hardly justify buying matte versions of polish I already owned.
I actually quite like this product. I’ve used it over several polishes (Essie Midnight Cami being my favorite). It gives a true matte finish initially. That being said, everytime I’ve used it, it chipped in a day or two. And the matte finish also faded. I’m willing to put up with that because matte polishes (like those from OPIs Matte collection) do not wear longer or better.
This top coat dries extremely fast.

Welcome! My name is Alli and I am one half of the team that runs The Daily Varnish.
I am from (and currently reside in) Charlotte, North Carolina. While I have a passion for all things beauty and fashion, nail polish has always been my favorite form of silent expression.
The Daily Varnish started as a hobby but has turned into so much more. My nails have been featured everywhere from CNN to BuzzFeed and I have had the opportunity to work with and meet amazing people who share my passion for beauty and fashion.
Thank you to everyone who has shared this journey with me so far! Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Hi! I’m Katie! I’m a teacher by day and a nail polish addict… well, all the time. While I’m a North Carolinian by birth (and in my heart), I currently live in Richmond, Virginia and I love it!
I’ve been a nail polish lover ever since my early teens – hauling around ziploc bags of nail polish to and from swim meets, coming up with ridiculous combinations and just hoping that cute boy (du jour) would let us convince him to paint his toes… Alli reignited my nail polish love by sending me Russian Navy and Midnight in Moscow for my 26th birthday and there’s been no looking back.
Whether you’ve just discovered TDV or you have been reading our ridiculousness for years – thank you so much!

Welcome to The Daily Varnish!
The Daily Varnish is a nail polish blog started on November 9, 2009 that is run by two best friends that just happen to share a love of nail polish.
What makes this blog different? This is a blog that focuses on what we actually wear on our nails. You will find reviews of products we really use. What polishes we are actually wearing and our honest thoughts and opinions on all of it.
Please check out our less formal blog: The Daily Varnish Extra. After all, sometimes we do talk about things other than nail polish.
