OPI has been busy lately! Recently they’ve released at least 3 collections (!) and a base coat specifically for glitter polishes. When I saw the promos for the OPI Glitter Off Peel-able Base Coat I was skeptical. For years I’ve been using a DIY peel off base coat for swatching glitter polishes.
The down side of using the DIY peel off base coat has always been wear time. I get about a day of wear out of it before the glitter starts to peel off. This is great if you only want to wear glitter for a night out (which is basically the only time I use the glitter base coat).
Because of the wear time issue I was hoping the OPI Glitter Off Base Coat was different from the popular DIY version. Turns out, it’s not. The OPI Glitter Off Base Coat is PVA based just like glue.
Below the jump you find a DIYable version a Peel-able base coat using glue and a few tips on how to get the longest wear out of a glitter mani when using this base coat.

I’ve been in a bit of a nail polish rut lately. In an attempt to solve this (very serious) problem I decided to combine two of my more recent favorite discoveries; PISTOL polish Blue Bonnie and Funky Fingers Jawbreaker. They went together surprisingly well! Blue Bonnie is a polish I just can’t get enough of […] Continue reading →
I am so ready for spring! Winter is just dragging on this year. Even in the South. But I’m ready for fresh produce and warm sunshine. A girl can dream, right? Here in Charlotte we’ve had a few days here and there that were gorgeous and warm. I embraced those days and started trying out […] Continue reading →
It’s a busy month here at The Daily Varnish! Earlier in the month my nails appeared in All You magazine. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, my nails are also in the latest issue of First For Women magazine. Interestingly enough, the magazine took a poll of their readers and 56% said they would try sweater nails. […] Continue reading →
Y’all! I’m so excited about this! Several months ago All You magazine contacted me regarding a technique I’ve used in past manicures to create an ombre effect using an eyeshadow sponge tip applicator. They asked me to create a manicure for the magazine. That manicure can be found in the March 2014 issue which is on […] Continue reading →
Along time ago I did a manicure where I mixed a textured polish (JulieG Blueberry Fizz) and a metallic polish (Essie No Place Like Chrome). I loved the end result. There’s something about mixing the two extreme ends of nail polish textures spectrum (I just totally made that a thing) I think not only looks […] Continue reading →

This is my favorite post of the year! I love looking back over the year and picking my favorite polishes released in 2013. Of course, I always have a difficult time settling on just 10. I started out with 18 contenders but did manage to dwindle it down to 10. The biggest surprise about this […] Continue reading →
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2014! Every New Year since long before I was born my family has a traditional, Southern meal on New Year’s Day. This includes essentials such as ham, collards, black eyed peas and of course, corn bread. But before we move on to the new year, I wanted to wrap up […] Continue reading →
Apparently it’s the first day of winter. Not that I’ve noticed. As I type this it is 60 degrees outside here in Charlotte, North Carolina. But hey, that’s how I like my winters anyway! Anyway. On to the nail polish! There isn’t that much difference between the colors that are popular during fall and winter. […] Continue reading →
