OPI – Comet Closer

OPI -- Comet CloserOn paper (or eBay), Comet Closer seemed destined to be a forever favorite – joining my (literal) handful of golden glittery, shimmery, and maybe too well loved  selections from OPI Holiday collections of years passed. I had visions of  Designer…De Better, Glitzerland, and Glamour Game dancing in my head.

When I made my first round Starlight collection drafts: Give Me Space & Comet Closer, I was intrigued by the official OPI description: a warm textured gold. Ohhh. Ahhhh. My brain was filled curiosity & intrigue. Maybe texture would take this beautiful holiday standard shade to the next level. After all, I love texture, I love gold… this should be a winner!

You know what’s about to happen right? It’s been building. The ultimate let down: I am not in love with this polish. I think the color is lovely but the texture is… weird. It’s a subtle cross between a suede and a liquid sand – light on the liquid sand. I do like that it dries really quickly – as textured polishes tend to do and I like that I only needed two coats. It’s not that it’s horrible looking – it isn’t, but it doesn’t meet my standard for a glitzy glamorous golden holiday polish either. I think if this was released as part of the fall collection, I’d like it better. I will say that the more I’ve worn it, the more I like it – but I still don’t love it. I really, really wanted to love this polish.

So on that note, OPI polishes retail for $9.50. Ulta is currently has OPI on sale – 2 for $16! Fabulous. I found Comet Closer on Amazon for $6.20 + free shipping! If you’re looking for a little more, you can try the Twinkle Twinkle Duo or the Mini Set.

I plan on ordering a few more gems from the Starlight collection. If you have a favorite or one you’d like to see, let me know below!

Shine on,

  1. If you are after a textured gold, OPI My Favourite Ornament is the one for you. Ok, it’s more champagne than Glitzerland, but it’s close enough. Perfect for Christmas, too. 🙂
