deborah lippmann A Fine Romance COVERIf you don’t know about TCM’s 31 Days of Oscar you are missing out. Starting February 1st TCM, for 31 days, shows wall to wall Oscar winning films. Last week I happened to catch Swing Time; a musical starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers that was released in 1936. The famous song from that film is The Way You Look Tonight. But, I was surprised to hear A Fine Romance when I was watching the film. I didn’t realize it was from Swing Time.

This is the polish from deborah lippmann’s Spring 2015 Whisper Collection I’ve been hesitant to try. Looking at A Fine Romance in the bottle I didn’t think I was going to like it. It looked boring. But, on the nail it really came alive and gave my nails a nice, yet understated polished look.

deborah lippmann describes A Fine Romance as a sheer pearly champagne. While that is a totally accurate description it does pull a bit pink on me. So pink, in fact, I did a fun little Valentine’s Day manicure with this polish.

As with all the polishes in this collection A Fine Romance is sheer. I used 3 coats in my swatches and the color is certainly not opaque.

Make sure to check out the swatches under the jump.

The Whisper collection is currently available at Nordstrom (free shipping!), Sephora and Amazon.

Fred and Ginger’s films are so much fun! The scene that features The Way You Look Tonight i s one of their most memorable and hilarious moments on screen together! I hope you see more of those films. TCM is a great antidote to some of today’s more forgettable movies. This polish didn’t grab me(Chantilly Lace is more my speed) but your swatches are brilliant, as usual. thanks!

I love TCM. I’ve had the best time watching some older films since they’ve been doing their 31 Days of Oscar. Swing Time is such a fun film.

Yes, very understated but sometimes that fits the bill, and the tiny bit of opalescence is so elegant. I find that sheerish nudes look much better when they do pull a bit pink like this, because any tinge of yellow on a sheer looks like the nail bed is just stained and badly in need of some lemon juice, lol.

I have a really hard time pulling off sheer nudes for that exact reason. Ones with some pink in them are definitely easier to pull off.

What do you think?
