Nail oils aren’t my first choice in terms of cuticle care. I much prefer creams and balms (my favorites being Barielle Nail Strengthener Cream and Smith’s Rosebud Salve). But, Barielle sent me this product and after a long day in the kitchen I saw it and decided to give it a go. While I quite like this product and it does preform well I still don’t love the fact that it’s an oil.
I started using this oil way back in July and have been using it fairly regularly ever since. Barielle claims that this product will soften hard cuticles, heal dry cuticles, prevent nail breakage (as Barielle says, happy cuticles equal happy fingernails) and builds strong, healthy nails. As a bonus, and important for me, this works even if you’re wearing nail polish.
The directions say to use this before bed to allow the oil really penetrate. While I do sometimes use it before bed most of the time I use this between polishes. Especially if I was wearing a glitter or some polish that required a lot of acetone to remove. That really dries out the nails and cuticle area.
One thing I really like about this product is the packaging. I apply it to my cuticles and all over my nails and let it soak in for as long as I can (I actually have this product on my nails right now!). I like applying this with a brush and not having to rub it in. This makes using a nail oil a bit less messy.
After I let it soak in for 10 or 15 minutes I rub the rest in as if I was using hand cream.
Now the important part; does this help my cuticles? Yes. Absolutely. This is a great product to moisturize cuticles. And I do think it’s more moisturizing than other methods of moisturizing cuticles. BUT not enough to convert me to a nail oil user. I just prefer the other formats. Plus, I’m not super crazy about the scent of this nail oil. It’s a bit herbal/medicinal for my taste. Though, the scent does not stick around long.
In short, if you are in the market for a nail oil I highly recommend this product. It’s just not my cup of tea. I will be, however, passing it on to Katie who LOVES nail oils.

During the day your fingernails are being stripped of their natural oils and lipids due to soaps, detergents and even good old h20 (water). These everyday activities work to break down the oils that keep your nails healthy and from breaking. When you apply Barielle Intensive Nail Renewal Oil, it replicates the body’s natural oils and lipids to restore cuticles and reduce further nail breakage.
