It must be obvious by now that I love trying different nail care products. Almost everyday my nails endure a polish change. This leads to dry nails that tend to peel so I’m always on the hunt for affordable, easy to use products that will keep my nails and cuticles hydrated.
I’ve tried so many different cuticle products; my favorite being Smith’s Rosebud Salve. The downside of that product is it’s not entirely convenient to use. It’s a product I reach for when I’m sitting in bed watching television or watching a movie. Basically, it’s a fabulous product but you can’t touch anything for a good while as it soaks in. This was a roundabout way of saying I was looking for a cuticle product to use when I don’t have all the time in the world.
Enter Barielle Nail Strengthener Cream. It has filled that void wonderfully yet still does a fabulous job moisturizing my cuticles.
The claims that come with this product are quite lofty. Barielle claims that this product, used twice a day even while wearing polish, will make your nails strong and resilient. This product is supposed to help with nails that are brittle, soft, splitting and/or breaking. For best results this product is to be used at least twice a day and it takes 3-4 weeks to see a noticeable improvement.
I was a bit skeptical as I’ve tried so many cuticle products with loft claims and always seem to end up disappointed. I’m happy to report I am very impressed with this product.

Packaging: The Packaging of this product is the epitome of basic. It comes in a study plastic tub with a cap that twists on and off. It has a plastic piece that covers the product that I promptly threw away. No bells or whistles here. Also, no complaints.
Review: I really like this product. I’ve been using it for almost 2 months trying to apply it to my nail area twice a day (some days I do fail at this task!). While my cuticles or nails weren’t in bad condition I have noticed an improvement. Particularly the skin around my nails.
Prior to using this product I’d get very small hangnails, particularly if I wasn’t diligent with a hand cream. That has almost entirely subsided.
My hands spend a good amount of time in water. I love to cook but that also means lots of dish washing! I really do think since I started using this product my nails are more hydrated and therefor more resisted to breaking.
Aside from the great results I’ve been getting from the Barielle Nail Strengthener Cream, it’s also a product I enjoy using. This is key for me because if I don’t like using a product I simply won’t use it.
The consistency of the cream is thick; almost like a balm. It rubs into the skin easily and doesn’t leave a film that needs to soak in. It’s a cuticle product that doesn’t require a huge time commitment as you can rub it into your cuticles and go on your way.
I like the scent of this product; it reminds me of something my grandmother would have used, though I can see how some people would be turned off by the scent. But, the good news is, the scent doesn’t linger.
Other Thoughts: This product is not only effective but also reasonably priced. The Nail Strengthener Cream is currently $9.99 on the Barielle website for 1oz of product. That’s less expensive (per ounce) that most products I have tried.
Nail care isn’t something I’ve always paid attention to but healthy nails have made by far the biggest difference in the look and longevity of my manicures. The best base coats and top coats on this planet won’t extend a manicure like having healthy nails will.
