Being inspired by fashion and turning that into a manicure is nothing new around here. So when ModCloth contacted The Daily Varnish to tell me about their current nail art challenge; taking inspiration from a ModCloth dress and turning it into a manicure, I was in.
I began to browse the over 3000 dresses on ModCloth.com and found so many I loved (I pinned quite a few!). But the one that really stood out to me was the Schooner Said Than Done Dress. I love the color navy and I’ve really been into stripes recently. And the nautical theme just felt so summer appropriate.
This was fun and surprisingly easy to translate into a manicures. For this look I used Ulta Snow White, Barielle Miami Heat, butter LONDON Royal Navy and OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby. As far as nail art tools I used nail striping tape and a dotting tool (that I DIY’d).
The key to this manicure (as with all manicures that require tape) is to let the base dry completely. This can mean several hours. Trust me, it’s worth waiting instead of being frustrated when the tape pulls up the base color!
Some other tips on creating this manicure; always use the lighter color as a base and pick polishes that are opaque, remove the tape immediately while the top color is still wet and wait a good half hour before applying a top coat so you don’t smudge your mani.
There are, of course, swatches under the jump. In the related posts you’ll find more manicures that have been inspired by fashion.
