China Glaze Don’t Be A Flake

China Glaze Don't Be A Flake coverLately I haven’t really been into glitter. Or any kind of shimmer in my nail polish. But when I was looking at the China Glaze Surprise collection and saw Don’t Be A Flake had black glitter I just HAD to have it. I love black glitter and well, I just can’t say no. It’s a problem.

So anyway! Don’t Be A Flake has large turquoise, black and pink holographic glitter suspended in a clear base. The combination of colors look amazing in the bottle. Plus, I have absolutely nothing like it in my collection. Unfortunately, there are a few problems with this polish.

I had a hard time getting the glitter evenly on the nail. And when I dabbed the glitter to get it to stay on the nail it created a ton of bubbles. Even after playing with different application methods I didn’t love the result I achieved. There are swatches of that manicure below (OPI Passport and a Smile is the base color).

That being said, I did manage to create a manicure I really loved with this polish. I used Cover Girl Silver Lining as the base and then placed the glitter on the nail using a toothpick. It was time consuming but the result was awesome.

I wouldn’t expect to be able to use this as a normal glitter topper but the combination of glitter is great and if you have the patience to use a toothpick to place the glitter you can create great manicures.

The China Glaze Surprise collection seems like it’s a bit hard to find. Don’t Be A Flake is currently available on Amazon and eBay.

Make sure to check out the swatches under the jump!

  1. I’m kind of bummed that this glitter topper is hard to work with. I’ve been looking forward to this post. I do quite like the glitter placement mani though, not sure I have a steady hand or patience.

What do you think?
