L’Oreal is the latest brand to jump on the gel but not actually gel nail polish bandwagon. They have released a full system they are calling Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque. The base and top coat for the system are sold together and then the Gel-Lacque nail polish is sold separately. I have the entire system and did use the top and base coat with this polish but I’m just reviewing the polish in this post. I’ll be doing a separate review on the top and base coat after I use it a bit more.
So, on to Elegance is Innate. It is a deep blue leaning gray creme that is really quite lovely. The color is great but I can’t help but think I’ve seen this color a hundred times before. And turns out, I have! This is very similar to OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! and China Glaze Concrete Catwalk.
Granted, the formula is supposed to be what’s special about this polish not the color. As with most “gel” polishes the formula was on the thick side and quite opaque. I used just two coats in all my swatches.
While the formula is great, I didn’t find anything about this polish particularly special. When I first applied the polish I really loved the way it looked on my nails. They were super shiny and thick looking (if that makes sense…). But, despite the fact I used the Gel-Lacque system my manicure didn’t wear any longer than just a normal manicure.
That being said, for those who have ridges or other nail imperfections, I would recommend this polish. The thicker formula will help conceal those issues.
The Gel-Lacque polishes are more expensive ($7.99) than the normal L’Oreal polishes. I haven’t seen them in stores yet but the line is available online at drugstore.com.
Make sure to check out the swatches under the jump!
PS: If you’re looking for a “gel” gel polish I highly recommend the Avon Gel Finish polishes.
