Formula X by Sephora The X Look coverI’m so excited to finally try the new Formula X for Sephora nail polish line!

As you may know, recently Sephora discontinued their Sephora by OPI polish line and introduced the new Formula X line. There are a ton of polishes and different finishes to choose from.

The X Look set is a great way to try a little of everything. The back of the packaging says that this season’s X look is the ring finger manicure. So, this kit includes 4 mini polishes; Dark Matter, Atom + Eve, Mr. Positivity and Bond, Ionic Bond (these are all also available in full size bottles). Also included are 4 nail appliques (2 each of different designs). All the products in this set are made to work together.

This kit was originally $22.50 but is currently on sale at sephora.com for $16.

Below the jump are my reviews of the 4 polishes and the Formula X nail appliques. My favorite polish from this set was a surprise to me! Though, ironically, my favorite manicure I did with this set did not involve my favorite polish….

Dark Matter: Dark Matter is an opaque black creme. This is a good black polish. I only needed 2 coats and it dries to a nice, shiny finish. That being said, there’s nothing particularly special about this polish but I do think it was nice they included a neutral, creme finish polish in this set.

Bond, Ionic Bond: I was surprised how much I loved this polish! Bond, Ionic Bond is a super shimmery metallic gold with large gold glitter. It’s very eye catching on the nail and completely unique in my collection. That being said, this polish did not wear well at all. It started to flake off (like gold leaf….) in about a day. Despite that, this is my favorite polish from this set.

Formula X for Sephora Atom + Eve Formula X for Sephora Atom + Eve swatch Formula X for Sephora Atom + Eve MACRO

Atom + Eve: This polish is Dorthy’s red shoes in nail polish form! The base color is an almost burgundy red packed with red shimmer. I did need three coats to get an opacity I was happy with. Despite the 3 coats this was not a hard polish to remove. While I do love this polish it reminds me an awful lot of NYC Broadway Burgundy which is a much less expensive, and more readily available polish.

Formula X for Sephora Mr. Positivity Formula X for Sephora Mr. Positivity swatch Formula X for Sephora Mr. Positivity MACRO Formula X for Sephora Mr. Positivity MACRO2

Mr. Positivity: Sephora describes this polish as a glitter green with micro emerald green encrusted glitter. Those words together make little sense to me! I’d describe this as a true green jelly base packed with green glitter. It’s a very glittery (VERY GLITTERY) polish. But the green doesn’t scream holiday to me. So while it works for the holidays I think I’ll get use out of this other times of the year as well.

Formula X for Sephora nail appliques

Nail appliques: The Formula X nail appliques are made from real nail polish. I found them easy to work with though they were a bit dry…meaning they didn’t stretch to fit my nail as well as some others I have used. As far as the designs go, I really loved the gold and black design (the gold is exactly the same as the gold polish in the set) while the red design I wasn’t the biggest fan of.

FYI, when using the Formula X polishes it seem to be important to use the base and topcoat that match. Once I invested in the whole kit I was surprised and pleased at how well the polishes wore. I just removed Atom & Eve and Mr Positivity this evening after 5 days with only 1 minor chip and minor tip wear. I wonder if this base and top coat will work as well with other polishes?

What do you think?
