Perfect Pair Julep Winter and deborah lippmann Today Was a FairytaleWhen a polish doesn’t quite work for you and you don’t have time to entirely redo your nails what does any reasonable person do? Top it with glitter!

Julep Winter isn’t my favorite Julep polish ever for several reasons, but the main one being the color straight up clashes with my skintone. The solution was obvious; top it with something that will change the color of the polish.

Deborah Lippmann Today Was a Fairytale has a gray, jelly base. It’s not a dark base but there’s enough color to neutralize the yellow in Winter. The result was perfect and reminded me of a blustery, winter day.

If you were around for my original review of Today Was a Fairytale then you know I wasn’t completely won over by the polish. But as it has been part of my collection I have found it to be one of the most versatile glitters I have. Go figure, right!

There are swatches under the jump (and a picture I took of this manicure outside over on TDV Instagram). Just a warning/heads up: any pink you see in these swatches is a reflection from my pink (yes, pink) camera.

pretty! I have been curious to try Today was a Fairytale, but I think I am going to get Sally Hansen Triple Shine in Sparks Fly to see if I like that first. I think the base of it may be more blue than grey, but really similar polish otherwise. That said, I love Lippmanns and I would never buy dupes if money were no object.
