It’s been ages since I’ve gotten a monthly Julep box! The November 2013 It Girl box caught my eye.
As I was prepping for a Friday night out with the girls Winter made its way onto my nails. I was wearing a pretty colorful dress and I love using gray polish as a neutral. Unfortunately, this is not one of my favorite gray polishes.
Winter is a light gray creme with significant yellow undertones (for the record….Julep describes it as a grey cloud creme…). Just as a color I quite like Winter. It just leans too yellow to look good with my skintone.
The formula leaves something to be desired. It’s quite thin and a bit runny. I used three, carefully applied, thin coats in my swatches.
Once I got this on my nails I realized I needed add something to make this polish wearable. I used one coat of Deborah Lippmann Today Was a Fairytale and the result was marvelous. You can get a sneak peek of that mani here.
Generally speaking I’ve had great luck with Julep polishes. Their Maven program is great (you can even get your first box for free using the code FREEBOX) but there are much better gray polishes out there this season. Some of my favorites include Cover Girl Silver Lining and Deborah Lippmann Chasing Pavements.
There are tons of swatches under the jump!
