deborah lippmann Pseudo Silk Kimono

deborah lippmann Pseudo Silk KimonoMatte finish nails are definitely back. But this time around they are a bit different from the super flat matte polishes of a few years ago. These new matte polishes have a slight sheen to them. Or, taking from the name of Deborah Lippmann’s new Silk Shade collection, a silk finish.

Pseudo Silk Kimono is one of the three polishes in the Silk Shade collection. I was particularly drawn to this polish because I have a not so secret love of white manicures.

The great thing about Pseudo Silk Kimono is it’s not a stark white. There is a slight dustiness to Pseudo Silk Kimono as well as subtle shimmer. As it dries to a semi-matte finish the shimmer gives the polish a pearl, or silk like, look.

To get a nice finish with this polish it does take a bit of work and careful application. As with all matte polishes, this polish dries very quickly. I used three thin coats in my swatches. As far as wear time goes….for a matte polish this one wears pretty good. I had tip wear pretty fast but no major chipping until the third day of wear.

I really do love this polish. The finish is gorgeous and completely unique in my collection. I even used it as the base for my Auburn game day manicure last weekend.

The Silk Shade collection officially launches in November, but Pseudo Silk Kimono is currently available to purchase exclusively on Refinery29.

And in case you were wondering, this is the polish used during the Kate Spade show last week during New York Fashion Week. You can check out that manicure here.

There are a slew of swatches under the jump.

Make sure to leave a comment with what you think about matteen polishes being a trend for fall!

  1. I like to mix my old pearl polishes with crème polishes similar in colour – the result is quite “silk” looking, I think. And I wear them much more often because I like the “neither-here-nor-there” (so to speak) finish. :)

  2. This is a gorgeous polish! I’ll have to pick it up :)

  3. Interesting. I can’t wait to see the Red Silk Boxers one in person. This one reminds me of a cooler toned version of Orly Au Champagne. Similar finish- I like to call it suede or a satin finish- almost matte. I can’t seem to love those semi matte finishes yet. But I am slow on the trends. Just got my first textured polish so maybe I will fall in love with these satin type finishes after all. We’ll see. Lovely swatches. thanks for the Lippmann preview!

    • I have Red Silk Boxers but haven’t tried it yet. I think that one is going to be really beautiful when the cooler weather finally does arrive.

The nice thing about these matte/semi-matte polishes is if you don’t love the finish you can just slap on a top coat. That being said, I really do love the finish on this polish. It’s not a harsh matte finish like some polishes have.

  4. This new finish sounds intriguing. I’m excited to check it out!

  6. […] The inspiration came from the Vanessa Hudgens inspired manicure I did ages ago. For a base I used deborah lippmann Pseudo Silk Kimono and then used Sally Hansen Batbano Blue and Barielle Miami Heat and a dotting tool to create the […]
