China Glaze Gossip Over Gimlets (+ a dupe!)

China Glaze Gossip Over GimletsAdmittedly, I’ve never had a gimlet. I didn’t know what it was before I got this polish. But, I did look it up on Wikipedia and quite honestly, it sounds like a fabulous cocktail.

Likely I will be ordering a gimlet in the near future just to appease my curiosity. Not that it will be the first time I’ve ordered a drink thanks to a China Glaze nail polish. Not long ago I was at one of my favorite sports bars, Hickory Tavern, when I discovered they had a drink called Fancy Pants. It just so happens, China Glaze also has a nail polish called Fancy Pants. I couldn’t resist. It turned out to be a fabulous drink!

Anyway. Onto the actual nail polish! Gossip Over Gimlets is from the fall 2013 Autumn Nights collection. China Glaze describes it as a platinum shimmer soiree. It does indeed look like a soiree in a bottle, but to be more specific, Gossip Over Gimlets is a shimmery metallic platinum with gold glitter. The color is GORGEOUS. And the formula is fabulous. I used just two coats in my swatches.

Then I realized this polish seemed awfully familiar. Turns out, wet n wild Fergie nail color in Going Platinum is a dead on dupe. The only slight difference is the wet n wild formula is a tad bit thinner and therefore requires three coats. But the end result is exactly the same.

Going Platinum is quite a bit less expensive and can be found almost anywhere as well as online at and The formula difference is marginal. Don’t think the China Glaze is worth the extra money.

There are a slew of swatches below the jump including a comparison between Gossip over Gimlets and Going Platinum.

  1. I have Sally Hansen’s Celeb City (bought it a few years ago) and it looks like it would be identical to these as well, but without the gold glitter. Honestly, this just looks like a standard silver polish… I’d never have known it had gold glitter in it if you hadn’t written it… I can’t see it in the pictures at all.

    1. Celeb City and a slew of other metallic silver polishes have the same base as this one. The gold specks warm this polish up just a tad bit making the polish slightly less jarring, if that makes any sense.

  2. Yay! I already have the Going Platinum polish so you saved me money. Well, sort of as I will be using the gains to choose another desired polish. Thanks!
