During a recent trip to Walgreens I spotted the Maybelline Color Show Holographic Effect display. My first thought as I looked at the display was “umm….these are not holo polishes!” And they’re not. The only thing holographic about any of these polishes is the label (for anyone who is confused there is a clear diagram below the jump).
Once I moved past that I was really drawn to Blue Blaze. The color reminded me of a pair earrings my grandmother used to wear. It’s so strange how my brain works!
When I made that connection I decided I needed to have this polish. As it turns out, it was a good decision.
Blue Blaze is oh so gorgeous. It’s a steel blue metallic that flashes between a darker blue and silver. It looks complicated and subtle on the nail all at the same time.
The formula is quite impressive. Usually metallic polishes are a little thin and therefore require an extra coat, but Blue Blaze applied beautifully in just 2 coats.
Despite the complete false advertising on Maybelline’s part calling this polish holographic, I really do love this polish. I’ve been wearing it for 3 days now and I have no real desire to take it off. Dare I even say I could pull this off as a neutral?
Unlike Downtown Brown, a polish I picked up from the Fall 2012 Runway Color Show Collection, Blue Blaze does not say limited edition on the cap. Makes me think Maybelline will be adding this to the permanent line. Fingers crossed!
