OPI The Spy Who Loved Me

OPI The Spy Who Loved MeWhen I first picked up the OPI Skyfall 007 mini set this was probably the polish I was most excited about. Yet, I tried GoldenEye, Live and Let Die and The World is Not Enough before this one! Go figure.

The Spy Who Loved Me is a shimmery red almost jelly with distinct orange undertones. The color is really quite gorgeous.

Because this polish has a jelly feel to it I did use three coats in my swatches. Otherwise, the formula is great. I have no complaints!

Safe to say, after I did this manicure I was quite happy. I loved the color and the way it turned out. I went on with my usual life. I went grocery shopping and then to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra. I didn’t do dishes or even make a meal! Throughout the day my nails began to chip. Badly. 36 hours after application they looked like this. Awful, right?

I used my normal base and top coat and prepped my nails as usual. I have no idea why it wore so poorly. Unfortunately, I haven’t given this polish another whirl. I want to but it’s never a convenient time to wear a polish you think is going to end in disaster!

If you have this polish please let me know if you had any wear issues. I’ve had a few people tell me they have similar problems which makes me sad because this polish is gorgeous.

Make sure to check out the additional swatches below the jump!

  1. It is a good shimmery red. I can wear mine year round but it’s always nice to have an update to my warm reds. I would have liked to have seen more gold shimmer in this one however but that might have been too holiday and OPI is really been trying to keep these end of the yr movie tie in not look like holiday. I was most excited to try the fuchsia glass fleck in this collection – and yet like you that was not the first I reached to try out of the ones I bought. I first reached for Tomorrow Never Dies and used Man With a Golden Gun gold flake over it – it was total love for me – my bottle is very purple vs. how it shows up in photos as blue. After having these for more than 1.5 months now I finally got round to wearing the magenta glass fleck You Only Live Twice – I think it’s my fav and I know I will wear it tons and tons…it’s now replaced my former winter magenta/fuchisa fav of OPI Let Me Entertain You. This red you have shown is a definite keeper for me.

    1. No doubt this is a beautiful color and one I think anyone could get alot of wear out of. I do with OPI would go back to their normal holiday collections though!

  2. Wow, I must have gotten a good bottle or something! Mine also came in the mini set. I wore it for 4 days (which is a long time for me) with no chips except where I broke a nail during that time. I had some tip wear and that’s about it!

  3. That is such a pretty red too. Like a red crayon, a true red. Although I seemed to have picked up all the others in the Skyfall collection, somehow I don’t have this one. I don’t know why it didn’t catch my eye at the store, but it seems like such a must have classic color. I’m sad to hear that it chips and wears so poorly. Maybe it was just a combo of factors that caused it and not the polish quality itself. Oh well, it would still work for nail art. If not, there’s always the dupe/swap drawer.

  4. My bottle has given me really great results! Over a week of wear – during finals week too. Even through my stresed picking at my nails, The Spy Who Loved Me held up. I use the Revlon ColorStay base coat (which is my new favorite, I think it’s better than the OPI Ridge Filler I was using) and Seche Vite top coat.

  5. I currently have this nail polish on and it hasn’t chipped yet! I’ve been wearing it for 2 days now. I did put Essie’s Matte About You over the top of it. Wonder if that helps at all?

  6. Wow! I came across this blog after searching for gel and regular polish online for the Spy who loved me by OPI.

My experience has been much different, I got the gel on my mani and regular polish for my pedi and I am into week three with no chipping. I do dishes and use my hands alot due to my profession as a technology consultant.

I was so happy I found a polish and gel color I enjoyed and it committed to me.

    1. I’m glad you’ve had a good experience! I’ave never tried this polish on my toes and I haven’t tried it on my nails since this post. Hopefully my wear issues were just a fluke.

  7. I got this color on my toes at the salon and wore it for a month. There was some chipping after three weeks, but really, it wore amazingly well. I cannot imagine this chipping after 36 hours. Maybe some of you got a bad batch. I use Sally Hansen SuperShine top coat, which is very tough. I literally never have chips unless I go past three weeks.

    1. To be fair, I find most polishes wear fine on toes, even neons! But polishes do work differently with everyone’s body chemistry. Sounds like you’re a lucky one who can get away with wearing this polish 🙂

  8. I used to have that problem and then started looking at what nail techs were using. They never use over the counter top/base coats from the drug store. The most popular is Beauty Secrets. The bottles are shaped like balls. The top coat has a blue tint. They come in regular polish size and also a huge size. I get mine from Sallys. I think there is a QTICA one that is used but I believe it is like $30. They make one that helps nails to grow faster.

    1. I use that brand quite frequently. My favorite base coat is from a nail supplier. This polish was an exception for me. I rarely have any wear issues.

What do you think?
