Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat Fractured Foil

And the crackle craze continues. I initially spotted the latest Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat display at Walgreens but I have since seen it almost everywhere; CVS, Ulta, etc. None of the colored crackles really interested me, I’m kind of over OPI Black Shatter, but I did want to try out this line. I settled on Fractured Foil because Katie loves OPI Silver Shatter so much.

Fractured Foil is more or less a dupe for OPI Silver Shatter. The instructions read “apply one thin or thick coat of Crackle Overcoat (depending on desired effect) over any Sally Hansen Nail Color, then apply a Sally Hansen Topcoat.” Obviously this can be used over any nail polish. The thinner the coat, the more of a crackle effect you will get.

I used a fairly thin coat over China Glaze Grape Pop. I like it, but I don’t love it. I guess I’m just not a crackle lover!

  1. I got the Sally Hansen crackle in the silver, gold and black ad none of them would crackle on me. My friend had the same problem them. Thankfully CVS took them back and now I’m going to try the Pure Ice crackle that has arrived at Walgreens this week. Hope those work out better.

    1. Really? You’re the first person I’ve heard of that has had that issue.

I haven’t seen the Pure Ice crackles in my area yet. I hope they work out for you 🙂

  2. The Sally Hansen shatters don’t work and the drugstore will take them back. I immediately tried and returned same day due to not working and they were on sale buy one get one half off! The Pure Ice Crackle definitely works far better than the Sally Hansen brand. In fact they are so good I am having a hard time deciding whether to stick with the line or go with OPI the namebrand due to getting it at a low cost. I am going to trade them for OPI but they do work Pure Ice and any OPi shatter I can’t get I will get Pure Ice. If you can’t get OPI at discount I recommend Pure Ice!

  3. I have no problem getting my Sally Hansen Crackle to work on my nails, although I also find that it works best over well-dried polish, and I usually add the overcoat the day after I’ve painted my nails the base color.
Which works fine, since I get a second run on my first mani.

  4. I looked up this post to see what y’all had to say about Crackle before I tried it. The comments made me skeptical enough to try it over my old manicure before I risked ruining a new one. Sure enough, mine doesn’t work either. This is on a three or four-day-old manicure with no top coat. It sort of looks like it wasn’t to crackle, but no dice. I’ll have to find another silver shatter.

    1. I really like OPI’s Silver Shatter – I had no problems with the one Sally Hansen I have. You definitely want to wait til your base color is dry – other than that just experiment with how thick a coat you put on. I wish you luck!
