butter LONDON Victoriana

Butter London Victoriana*Warning* Story coming up, if you only care about the polish skip to the next paragraph. So, I went to Ulta on Friday searching for the new Pretty in Paris Stila palette when I turned a corner and thought I was hallucinating. There in front of me was this and this AND this.  I was so excited I called Katie! I have been lusting after butter LONDON polishes for ages but I hate ordering beauty products online unless I’ve previously used a product. Only one of my Ulta’s is carrying butter LONDON so if you’re only making  a trip to look for this brand you may want to call first 🙂

butter LONDON’s Fall 2010 line is a tribute to Alexander McQueen. Victoriana immediately caught my eye. I  like butter LONDON’s description of this polish; “Things reminiscent of the Victorian era, such as corsets, top hats and Syphilis.”

Victoriana is a dusty vintage blue with tons of silver microglitter. The base color reminds me of a slightly less gray version of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Gray by Gray. Otherwise I don’t have anything similar to this color in my collection.

Application was amazing! The polish is very opaque and the perfect consistency. Two coats is more than enough for complete streak free coverage.

butter LONDON polishes are fairly expensive. Their polishes are $14, and their treatments (basecoat, topcoat, etc) are $18. The polishes are .4 ounces, the treatments are .6 ounces. The formula is amazing, and I really like the bottle. It has a removable rectangle cap.

I have worn this polish twice. The first time I wore it I used Seche Vite as my top coat and it chipped badly within 24 hours (I was not happy!). I don’t think it’s just Victoriana because I’ve had the same problem with British Racing Green. I am wearing it now and used OPI regular top coat and it’s wearing much better. I do not know if it’s quick dry top coats in general that don’t get along with butter LONDON’s formula or just Seche Vite.

I’d love some recommendations for colors to try. I already picked up British Racing Green for myself and Artful Dodger to send to Katie. What are your butter LONDON favorites?

I love using new nail polish brands!

  1. Hi, and huge thanks for all the great posts! I wanted to address your comment about using Seche Vite with bL. They are definitely not compatible! We only recommend using bL lacquers with the corresponding base and top coat. Products that are not 3 Free (formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP free) contain chemicals nasties, and have different evaporation times to our products. This can cause peeling and chipping within hours. Frankly, I also REALLY don’t want the thing closest to your bloodstream (base coat) to contain carcinogens! Keep those nail stories coming, and have a great weekend.
PS: Look out for us soon at all Nordstrom stores.

    1. I quit using SV all together not long after this post. It didn’t agree with most nail polish in my collection, not just butter LONDON’s!

      Thanks for the comments 🙂
