Borghese has a new collection out for Summer called Tutti Gelati. I spotted it at Rite Aid yesterday. The collection includes some interesting colors, but I have never bought any Borghese polish prior to Limoncello. I would always look at the colors, but passed due to the $8 price tag for a drugstore nail polish.
But then I was reading a post over at Nouveau Cheap and she mentioned that Rite Aid has a program called Video Values. Basically you watch a short video, and you get coupons for a particular item. They happened to be running a promotion for Borghese. I ended up with a $3 off coupon. I can justify spending $5 on a drugstore nail polish.
To be honest, I purchased Limoncello for the name. When I studied abroad in Southern Italy I fell in love with Limoncello. I honestly thought I would hate this color on my nails. I can’t wear yellow, or anything pale, without looking like a ghost. But I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like Limoncello.
Limoncello is a frosted pale yellow with just a but if microglitter. It’s more frosted than it is shimmery. It’s just glows on the nail.
Application was….interesting. Like I previously mentioned, this is my first Borghese nail polish, so I was surprised by the brush. When I first pulled it out of the bottle it appeared to be a flat wide brush sort of like the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure brushes. But as I used it I realized it was actually two small rounded brushes that were side by side. The brush did take some getting used to, but after that application was actually pretty good. The polish went on even, though I did have some issues with streaks. But that’s more because it’s a frosted polish, I don’t think it has anything to do with the brush. Limoncello was opaque in 3 coats and for the most part the streaks disappeared.
Overall, I had a good experience with my first Borghese polish. I did a little research about the company and it actually has a cool back story. After my experience with Limoncello and reading about the company, I will likely be purchasing more polishes from this brand.
I think I’ll spend the rest of the day admiring my nails and reminiscing about sitting in the public park in Sorrento overlooking the Gulf of Naples and sipping Limoncello.
