Emerald Sparkle is from China Glaze’s 2009 Holiday collection, Sleigh Ride. I didn’t purchase this when it came out, for the reasons stated above. Even after seeing swatches and this color taking the nail polish community by storm I still wasn’t overly excited and certainly didn’t run out to purchase it. Then yesterday I spotted it at Sally’s on clearance for $1.99. I figured people must LOVE it for a reason. And wow, am I glad I purchased it.
Emerald Sparkle is forest green glitter suspended in a forest green jelly(ish) base. The glitter is rather fine, not chunky glitter like OPI’s Absolutely Alice or Sephora by OPI Too Good For Him. Due to this, when it’s on the nail, the polish doesn’t scream GLITTER! It’s much more subdued, yet still has the same sparkle that the chunky glitter nail polishes have to offer.
The formula was a little thin. I had to use three coats, not for opaqueness, but for evenness. This polish wears incredible well.
This color will be great for around the holidays (of course since it was part of a holiday collection), but it is March, and with Saint Patrick’s Day coming up, I think this green is entirely appropriate. I have a few greens to choose from for St. Patty’s Day. I may end up going with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Going Green over this polish just to be a little more bold or maybe an entirely different green. We shall see!
Just a note: there are two versions of this polish floating around. I definitely have the newer version, which is darker than the old or original release. For a good comparison, click here!
